Mysuru Literature Festival (MLF) Fiction Contest for college students

Chairperson Shubha Sanjay Urs, on behalf of Mysuru Book Clubs and Mysuru Literary Forum Charitable Trust invites student-authors from all colleges in Mysore and Mysore District to participate in our first Fiction contest!

If you are looking to take your writing to the next level, then enter the MLF Fiction writing contest. This contest is planned as a part of Mysuru Literature Festival-2024 where we will showcase the winning entries. The first 3 winners will be invited to share their thoughts about the contest in a panel discussion at Mysuru Literature Festival 2024.

Eligibility

  • Participants must be age 18 or older and reside in Mysore and Mysore District
  • Participants must be students attending any degree college in Mysore and Mysore District, affiliated to any university in Karnataka. (College ID is required)

Submission Guidelines

  • All submissions must be original, in English or Kannada, and previously unpublished either in print media or online.
  • The story must be original. Translations of already published stories are not eligible.
  • 3,000 word maximum.
  • Include a cover page with story title, word count, author’s name, address, phone number, email address.
  • A soft copy of the short story should be sent via email attached in PDF format to: mlfstorycontest@gmail.com. The subject line must have MLF Fiction Contest/Story Title/Author’s name.
  • A hardcopy typed on one side of A4 paper, double-spaced with 12-point serif typeface (Times New Roman, Garamond, etc.), along with the cover page must be sent separately via postal mail to:

  • The pages must be numbered, with the title of the story as Header on each page.
    • Do not include your name on the manuscript pages.
  • Entry fee is Rs.250 per entry. Participants may submit up to two entries; each entry must include its own cover page and entry fee. Payment can be made via Gpay at 91 98867 54290 or 91 98804 44611. Screen shot of Gpay payment should be attached to the email along with the story submission.
  • The last date to submit the short stories is 15/03/2024.  Submission dates will be tracked by timestamp on the email and postal mark on paper copies.
  • Winners and honorable mentions will be notified via email by 31/05/2024.
  • The decision of the judges is final. Mysuru Book Clubs is the final authority in announcing the names of the winners.

Prizes (One each for English and Kannada)

  • First prize: 7500
  • Second prize: 5000
  • Third prize: 3000
  • All winning entries and Honorable Mentions will be printed in the first ever Anthology printed and released at the Mysore Literature Festival 2024! Winners will receive one free copy of the anthology.
