Vivek Shanbhag, an engineer by training, is a distinguished figure in Kannada literature, known for his profound contributions to the literary world. He has authored 13 works of fiction and edited two anthologies, showcasing his versatile storytelling prowess. As the founding editor of the esteemed literary journal Desha Kaala, Shanbhag has played a pivotal role in shaping contemporary Kannada literature. His critically acclaimed novel “Ghachar Ghochar,” celebrated for its intricate portrayal of familial dynamics, has been translated into 19 languages, garnering international recognition. In addition to his literary achievements, Vivek co-translated U.R. Ananthamurthy’s seminal work “Hindutva or Hind Swaraj” into English, further cementing his status as a significant literary figure. His excellence was acknowledged when he was named an Honorary Fellow at the International Writing Program, University of Iowa, in 2016. Currently, he shares his literary insights as a Visiting Professor, teaching Creative Writing at Ashoka University, inspiring a new generation of writers.
