Suresh Jayaram

Bio

Suresh Jayaram is an artist, art historian, arts administrator, writer, and curator from
Bangalore.
As the Founder and Director of Visual Art Collective/1.Shanthiroad Studio, Suresh Jayaram,
has established an international artists’ residency and alternative art space in Bangalore,
connecting the local art scene to a global community.
His involvement in art practice, urban mapping, archiving, curation, and arts education is
driven by a commitment to environmental and urban developmental issues.
He is dedicated to fostering a sense of community in the art world by actively networking
and collaborating with artists and art organisations to create a conversation across cultures
locally and globally. Suresh often mentors students on projects and curates walks in the city
that explore nature and culture, hosts an open house at his studio, and regularly cooks and
serves food to encourage creative encounters among people.
Jayaram has worked on the horticultural history of Mysore State and Bangalore City. He
edited a book titled "Whatever he Touched he adorned" (2010) on G.H. Krumbiegel.
He authored "Bangalore's Lalbagh – A Chronicle of the Garden and the City" in 2021, which
was awarded by Heritage Beku for Heritage Literature in 2023. He also wrote a regular
column on art and culture, "What you see when you see," for Bangalore Mirror.
Currently, he is working on a book about Cubbon Park.
