K. S. Jayalakshmi is a distinguished Sanskrit scholar and journalist, best known as the Editor of Sudharma, the country’s only daily newspaper published entirely in Sanskrit. She, along with her late husband, Sampath Kumar, dedicated decades of their lives to sustaining the publication and promoting Sanskrit as a living language.

In recognition of their exceptional contribution to Sanskrit journalism and the preservation of India’s linguistic heritage, the couple was honoured with the Padma Shri by the Government of India. Following the demise of her husband, Jayalakshmi received the award on behalf of both of them.
Her lifelong commitment to Sanskrit literature, journalism, and cultural preservation has earned her widespread respect and recognition across India. Through her work with Sudharma, she has played a significant role in keeping Sanskrit relevant and accessible to readers for generations.
