Bharathi Ghanashyam

Bharathi Ghanashyam

Bio

Bharathi Ghanashyam began writing in the early 90s with middles and children’s stories published in the Hindu and Deccan Herald. Over time, she became a full-time writer, travelling across remote parts of India to document the lives of marginalized communities. As an independent health journalist, her stories, featured in the Lancet and elsewhere, earned her two international awards and a fellowship. But fiction remained close to her heart. Her debut novel Rajammal, told in an old-world voice, took over a decade to write, surviving moments of deep doubt. She followed it with 100 Days – Not a soft story, drawn from her own marriage, and is now working on A Widow of Vrindavan. Bharathi’s writing, whether rooted in fact or fiction, carries the weight of truth and quiet resilience.
