Preetha Rajah Kannan

Preetha’s entire school life was as a boarder at Sacred Heart Convent, Yercaud. She was regularly the class topper, actively involved in dramatics and debating. She was also the School Pupil Leader.
She went on to graduate in Psychology from Women’s Christian College, Chennai, where she contributed actively to the college magazine and won numerous prizes for debates. She served as the Secretary and President of the Students Union. She has an M.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication from Madurai Kamaraj University.
She has contributed to newspapers and magazines, including the Indian Express. Her story, ‘The Tale of an Ice Cream,’ was one of the winning entries in the Sulekha.com – Penguin online short story contest, and was published by Penguin in the anthology, ‘Blogprint.’ Another short story, ‘Moving Out,’ was published as part of the anthology, ‘Two is Company and Other Stories,’ published by Unisun.
Her first book, Shiva in the City of Nectar, was published by Jaico and translated into Tamil. This was followed by Son of Shiva, Hounds of Shiva, The Warrior God Ayyappa of Sabarimalai and Dance of Shiva. Her latest book is The Tiger Throne, a translation of Kalki’s Ponniyin Selvan.
Preetha, a homemaker and a grandmother, lives in Madurai.
