Pandit Pravin Gorkhandi is from Dharwad, which is considered the cradle of Hindustani music in Karnataka. His father, Venkatesh Gorkhandi, is a renowned vocalist and a Bansuri artist, and he was also the first Guru for Pravin Gorkhandi, who taught him Kirana Gharana Gayaki style. Since his infancy, he was passionate about the flute. He gave his first concert at the age of 6 and held the audience spellbound. Later under Mridanga Vidvaan Anoor Ananth Krishna Sharma he mastered the layakari. Pandit Gorkhandi later added the Gatkaari and Tantrakaari styles to his music knowledge by his own effort.
Being a topper in academics , he is an electronics and electrical engineer.
Pandit Gorkhandi is adept both in traditional, creative, western, Karnatik and fusion styles of music. His music is exceptionally skillful and aesthetically appealing.

He has been honored with innumerable awards both nationally and internationally. He has received a national award from the honorable president of India for the music of the films Beru and Vimukti. He has been honored as “Venugaana Praveena” and “Singara Kala Ratna” in the US and Singapore.
He is the first artist from Karnataka to represent India in Bansuri in the recently held world flute festival in Argentina.
