V K Natraj studied economics in the University of Mysore and University of Oxford. He worked for three decades in the University of Mysore, where he was the Professor of Development Studies in the Institute of Development Studies. He was also the Registrar, University of Mysore. He has been a visiting faculty for several universities including the University of Sussex, UK, Centre for Political Studies, JNU, Delhi. He has been a member Advisory Council Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute and Member Board of Governors Institute for Social and Economic Change Bengaluru. After retirement, he Director, of Madras Institute of Development Studies, Chennai. He has a keen interest in several areas including decentralization, panchayat raj institutions, and positive discrimination.
