Jeet Thayil is a poet, novelist, librettist and musician whose work slips between the intimate and the hallucinatory. After over two decades as a journalist in Bombay, Bangalore, Hong Kong and New York, he turned to fiction with Narcopolis, the first of his Bombay Trilogy—shortlisted for the Booker, winner of the DSC Prize, and a cult favourite. His poems in These Errors Are Correct won him the Sahitya Akademi Award, and his collaborations like the opera Babur in London show his instinct for the unexpected. His latest poetry collection, I’ll Have it Here, and his upcoming novel, The Elsewhereans, carry forward his fascination with cities, desire, and the blurred edges of consciousness.
