Dr. Mahantesh Patil

Bio

Dr. Mahantesh Patil  is from Ranjanagi village in Mudhol taluk of Bagalkote district. He obtained an M.A. degree in Kannada from Karnataka University, Dharwad (2010), and a Ph.D. in ‘Tradition and Modernity in Decadal Kannada Stories (2001-2010)’ from Central University of Karnataka, Kalaburagi (2015). He served as a Guest Assistant professor at the Postgraduate Centre of Jnana Kaveri, Mangalore University, in Chikka Alavara (Kodagu) for four years. Currently, he is serving as a senior Assistant Professor in the Department of Kannada Studies at Davangere University. His areas of interest include creative writing and criticism.

Due to the interaction of poetry, the following awards have been received: Sankramana Literature Award (2012), D. R. Bendre Memorial Poetry Award from Christ University (three years- 2014, 2015, 2016), Prajavani Dipawali Special Issue – Student Poetry Award (two years- 2015, 2016), Sanchaya Poetry Award (two years- 2014, 2015), Ankur Poetry Award (three years- 2013, 2014, 2015). The Youth Media Magazine Poetry Award (2014) has also been received. Additionally, poems have been published in Various journals such as Prajavani, Vaarthabharathi, Kannada Prabha, Vijaya Vani, Mayura, Hosathu, Sangatha, Kendasampige, Avadhi, and Rithumaan

The ‘Vibhā Literary Award’ conferred by Gadag Ladai Prakashana in 2016 has been awarded to the first poetry collection ‘Oded Bannad Chitragalu’. The same work received the 2017 Kavyamanikya State Award and the 2018 Janna Sanadi Youth Literary Award. The second poetry collection ‘Chalisuva Godegalu’ has been awarded the Gavishiddh N. Ballari Poetry Award- 2022 for its manuscript. The same work has also received the Beelagi Datti Award- 2024. The author’s first critical collection ‘Belaku Beleyuva Hottu’ (2024) has received the 2025 Swabhimani Book Award. Two research projects titled ‘The Theoretical Framework of Environmental Criticism’ (2022) and ‘The Green Reading of Kuvempu Texts’ (2023) have been completed. More than 45 research articles have been published. The author has presented over 30 papers at international, national, and state-level seminars.
