64 year old Dr. Jagannath Shenoi winner of the 2018 “Valuable Citizen of Mysuru” Award is soft spoken, kind and humble to a fault. A person moulded differently, he is unaffected by the either by the riches he supervises or the challenges he has had to face as the person at the helm of Mysuru’s iconic Mangalore Ganesh Beedi Works.
A person who is averse to his large hearted charitable activities being made public, many only know of Dr. Shenoi’s acumen as a shrewd business man after emerging at the helm of affairs of Mangalore Ganesh Beedi Works on January 7, 1995, and his handling of a business vulnerable to government policies, regulations and growing health awareness.
But, Dr. Jagannath Shenoi’s philanthropy is legendary, and his contribution to Mysuru invaluable. “We take with us what we give”. This life principle forms the corner stone of all actions of Dr. Shenoi. The honorary doctoral degree conferred on him for his philanthropy and social service by Sri Lanka Open University stands testimony to the actions of this god fearing man, set in old school values. In Mysuru, recognising his unflinching commitment, continuing the humanitarian legacy passed on by his father and grandfather, taking it to greater heights, Rotary Club of Mysore West in association with Schevaran Laboratories Pvt. Ltd bestowed on him the title ‘Manava Ratna’. Simply put, it is an understatement to say that he has donated liberally, running to crores, for various social activities and causes.
