Jonathan Gil Harris is a writer and teacher descended from a long line of migrants on both sides of his family. Born in New Zealand and educated in England, Harris lived in the US for twenty-three years before moving to India in 2013. He has authored numerous books, including the bestselling The First Firangis: Remarkable Stories of Heroes, Healers, Charlatans, Courtesans & Other Foreigners Who Became Indian and Masala Shakespeare: How a Firangi Writer Became Indian. His new book, The Girl from Fergana: Secrets of My Mother’s Chinese Tea Chest, was published earlier this year. Harris lives in Delhi, where he is Professor of English at Ashoka University.
