Bio

Mathangi Subramanian is an Indian American writer and educator who believes stories have the power to change the world. Her novel A People’s History of Heaven was a finalist for the LAMBDA literary award and PFC-Valley of Words Prize, was longlisted for the PEN/Faulkner and the Center for Fiction First Novel Award, and was named a Skipping Stones Honor Book. Her middle grades book Dear Mrs. Naidu won the South Asia Book Award and was longlisted for the Hindu-Goodbooks Award. Her picture book A Butterfly Smile was inducted into the Nobel Museum by Nobel Laureate Dr. Esther Duflo. Her work has appeared in The Washington Post, Ms. Magazine, Quartz, Open MagazineThe Hindu, and The Indian Express, among others. She currently lives in Denver Colorado with her mother, husband, daughter, and way too many picture books.
