Jayant Kaikini

Jayant Kaikini, Kannada poet, short-story writer, columnist, and playwright, with seven short-story volumes, six poetry collections, three plays, and four collections of essays to his credit, is also a much sought-after award-winning lyricist, script, and dialogue writer for Kannada films and is a well-known television figure. He is the recipient of various prestigious awards, including four Karnataka Sahitya Academy book Awards, the Kusumagraj Rashtriya Bhasha Sahitya Puraskar, the Katha National Award, five Filmfare Awards for lyrics, two Karnataka State film Awards for lyrics, script – dialogues, and an honorary doctorate from Tumkur University for his contribution to kannada. “No Presents Please”, his latest book of selected Mumbai stories translated into English by Tejaswini Niranjana, received the DSC Prize for South Asian Literature in 2018.
